Description
Morgan-Monroe State Forest Encompasses more than 25,000 Acres in Morgan and Monroe counties in South Central Indiana. The forest is regenerated from a time period of settlement that cleared the area for farming.
Geography:
Morgan-Monroe State Forest was mostly un-glaciated during the last ice age. This has allowed for the creation of steep terrain, rock features, and scenic wonders.
Recreation:
There are 29 primitive general family campsites, 6 youth group campsites and a 1600 acre back country area available for camping. There are 3 prominent lakes on the property for fishing including Cherry, Bryant Creek, and Prather Lakes. There are several trails available. Scout Ridge Trail and the Tree ID trail both offer some educational points along them and are under 1 mile in length each.The Rock Shelter Trail and the Mason Ridge Trail are each approximately 3 miles in length. The 3 Lakes trail and Low Gap trail are each approximately 10 miles long. The Low Gap trail has a portion that goes through our back country area, and coincides with portions of the Rock Shelter and Mason Ridge trails.

Morgan-Monroe State Forest has 5 shelter houses, 1 full playground, 4 small sets of swings with a slide or teeter totter accompanying them, 2 rental cabins, fire tower, training center, 29 general family campsites, 6 youth group campsites, and 3 lakes.
